Urbaniak: Harvey Pekar, '39-'10

Nine years ago I walked onto the set of “American Splendor” in my Crumb costume and met Harvey Pekar for the first time. He saw me, beamed and exclaimed in his full-throated rasp “That’s him! That’s the guy!” It meant a lot. Later that day, after he’d watched me perform a scene, he said I…

I watched American Splendor today.  It was rough, but it was made easier when I saw James Urbaniak come on as the immortal Crumb.  Lately I have had a lot of Cleveland love and I have always loved Harvey Pekar.  I took it kind of hard when I heard he passed.  He was one of a kind and truly a genius.  He will be missed.

Thank you Mr. Urbaniak for the insight and the kind words to help all of us that care.
